Margaretha Järvinen from Copenhagen University. I am currently working on a research project on career and gender in Academia together with prof. This project has resulted in the book The power of citizens and professionals in welfare encounters: the influence of bureaucracy, market and psychology (click here) and a number of articles published in British Journal of Sociology (2019), Journal of Classical Sociology (2020) and Symbolic Interaction (2021). I have recently completed a research project on how bureaucratic principles, values of the market and norms of psychology influence the encounter between citizens and professionals in public organizations. My research interest in qualitative methodology and analysis has led to several books, the latest being the co-edited anthology Qualitative Analysis: Eight approaches for the social sciences (2020) (click here). My main areas of research are identity work in organizations, career and gender in Academia, the sociology of professions and power, and qualitative methodology and analysis. In the department, I am the funding coordinator. I am chair of CBS’ Professors Associations and I hold two board memberships at the Independent Research Fund Denmark (DFF) and at the Danish Center for Social Science Research (VIVE). My educational background is in anthropology (MA) and sociology (PhD) from the University of Copenhagen.
